Born from nature: The art of staining at Cosmaki's home textiles

Geboren aus der Natur: Die Kunst des Beizens bei Cosmaki's Heimtextilien

Dear friends of Cosmaki,

Today we would like to give you an insight into one of our most important processes: pickling the textiles for our “Homecoming” collections. As you know, the quality and sustainability of our products are very important to us. That's why we would like to show you how we use staining to ensure not only the beauty but also the longevity of our home textiles.

Our pickling methods
We use two carefully selected methods to give our textiles a new life:

1. Soy milk pickling method
This method is at the heart of our sustainability concept. The proteins contained in soy milk bind the dyes naturally and safely to the fibers. This is particularly effective with cotton and linen - exactly what we get from discarded hotel textiles.

2.1 Pre-staining with oak gall powder (tannin)
Before we use the alum and soda ash method, we pre-stain the textiles with oak gall powder. Tannin, the main ingredient, is a natural product that prepares the fibers for the mordanting process and allows for deep, rich color absorption.

2.2 Alum and soda ash pickling method
After pre-staining, we apply a mixture of alum and soda ash. This combination ensures that our natural dyes are firmly bonded to the fibers, resulting in vibrant and long-lasting colors.

Why is pickling so important?
Pickling is an essential step in our dyeing process. Not only does it ensure brilliant and long-lasting colors, but it also guarantees that every piece in our collection adds a special touch to your home. By combining traditional and innovative methods, we create textiles that are not only aesthetically pleasing but also environmentally friendly.

Our commitment to quality and sustainability
Cosmaki is about more than just textiles. It's about a way of life that combines aesthetics, environmental awareness and family values. With every collection we present to you, we want to reflect these values and bring home a piece of our commitment to a more sustainable world.

We hope that through this insight into our pickling process you can feel the love and care that goes into each and every one of our products. Our limited collections are a testament to our passion for craftsmanship and our commitment to the environment.
