Natural Dyeing as a Team Event

A collaborative process with natural dyes – calm, tactile, and consciously decelerated.

Instead of classic team building, our focus is on working together: observing, deciding, creating – without pressure to perform and without prior knowledge. The Cosmaki Atelier is exclusively yours for the duration of the event.

What the process looks like

Phase 1 – Color Chart
All together: We test natural dyes on watercolor paper and small textile pieces, experiment with pH values, and observe how color reacts live before your eyes – from green to blue, from yellow to orange. No lecture – just materials that speak for themselves.

Phase 2 –Bundle Dye
Everyone dyes a placemat (approx. 50x50cm) with bundle dye – plants, blossoms, and leaves leave their color directly on the fabric.

Phase 3 – Indigo
Everyone dyes a T-shirt with Indigo Shibori – the moment white fabric turns blue is always new.

What everyone takes home

  • 1 hand-dyed T-shirt (Indigo Shibori)
  • 1 hand-dyed placemat (Bundle Dye)
  • Textile color samples from the introduction

Framework & Organization

  • Group size: 6–12 people
  • Duration: approx. 3 hours
  • Location: Cosmaki Atelier No. 91, in the machwerkhaus, Cologne-Kalk – exclusively for your team
  • Drinks: Water & coffee (ERNST Rösterei) included

It was also nice that, despite being divided into small groups, you could still hop back and forth between the three different stations and look around.
