As an extension, we now offer a small dye service with monthly changing colors to help you keep garments in your wardrobe and keep them out of landfill. 🌈 Every month there is a new dye recipe that you can use to give your textiles a breath of fresh air.
NOTE: Only suitable for natural fibers. This includes cotton, hemp, silk, bamboo, linen and Tencel. We do not currently process wool.
September Colour: Gerbera Acacia
Catechu is an extract from various acacia species, obtained by boiling water and evaporating the resulting liquid. The mixture is rich in natural plant tannins.
This color is available to anyone who purchases the service by the last day of September. The garments will then be returned to you a few weeks later in November.
How does it work?
Add the type of clothing you want to dye to your shopping cart and complete your purchase. If you do not find an item in the list or it is a larger order, please email us (simon@cosmaki.com).
A shipping fee will be charged at checkout.
Once received, we begin the dyeing process, which can take up to four weeks.
Once your garments are dyed and finished, we will send them back to you so you can use them again! If you live in Cologne, you can also bring the items to us and pick them up.
Additional shipping conditions:
The service includes return shipping after dyeing is completed.
Once your order has been placed, our team will be in touch with a shipping label and instructions on how to send your garment. Please note that it may take 2-3 days for your label to be processed and emailed.
The cost of this service covers (1) garment up to approximately 0.5kg. Please note that if you have 2 or more average sized garments you will need to order the service for each garment separately. For small items such as socks, tank tops or children's clothing please contact simon@cosmaki.com to determine the cost for your project.
If you (or a group of friends) would like to send in 5 or more items of clothing, use code 5BULK at checkout for 15% off.
Care instructions:
Please use a pH neutral detergent for your items and wash them on a gentle cycle. If possible, hand washing is better. Please be sure to avoid acids such as soda and white wine as these can bleach the color. Natural dyes can fade with excessive exposure to sunlight.
Advantages:
Re-dyeing textiles offers a number of benefits, both for the individual and for the environment. Here are some of the key benefits:
-
Environmental protection :
- Conservation of resources : Instead of constantly buying new items of clothing, existing items of clothing can be refreshed by re-dyeing. This reduces the need for resources to produce new textiles.
- Waste reduction : Re-dyeing can extend the life of textiles, meaning fewer textiles end up in landfills.
-
Cost savings : Instead of buying a new garment because the color has faded or because you want a color change, you can simply re-dye the existing garment. This is often more cost-effective.
-
Individuality : Re-dyeing allows you to personalize clothes and create unique color combinations or patterns that are not commercially available.
-
Care and maintenance : Sometimes stains or discolorations can be covered or reduced by re-dyeing, giving a garment a new life.
-
Fashion and trends : Re-dyeing allows you to adapt older garments to current fashion trends without having to buy new clothes.
-
Emotional attachment : Often there are items of clothing that have a special emotional meaning. When such pieces fade or discolor, re-dyeing can help preserve them and allow them to continue to be worn.
-
Sustainability : In general, re-dyeing textiles promotes a more sustainable lifestyle as it reduces consumption and extends the useful life of products.
In summary, re-dyeing textiles can offer both ecological and economic benefits and help reduce consumption and promote a more conscious use of clothing.
